The November 2011 single, "Doomed Love Affair" / "Penetrate," captures the yin and yang of Ezra Furman & the Harpoons: expert rock'n'roll songcraft vs. warm acoustic intimacy; sugar-sweet romantic fatalism vs. bruised human hopefulness. "Doomed Love Affair" was recorded in Los Angeles during the sessions for the band's 2011 critically acclaimed album "Mysterious Power" released on Red Parlor Records. "Penetrate" was recorded in Chicago the day after it was written, when Ezra had a cold.
